Butler Athletes of the Week, presented by the Marines - October 31, 2017

Butler sophomores Isaiah Truss and Aliyah Bernard are the Butler Athletes of the Week, presented by the Marines.

 

Isaiah Truss, Football

In a 48-19 win at Ellsworth on Saturday, Isaiah Truss hit the 100-yard mark for the first time in his Butler career, carrying the ball 13 times for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His longest run was a 60-yard sprint up the middle to the end zone in the third quarter. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry.Truss is a sophomore from Raytown, Mo. Butler is now 7-2 on the season and is ranked 10th nationally. Butler will host No. 5 Independence on Saturday at 7 p.m. at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

 

Aliyah Bernard, Volleyball

Butler middle hitter Aliyah Bernard led Butler to a pair of conference victories to finish the regular season. She had 11 kills and hit .588 in a straight-set victory at Cloud. Then on Wednesday, she had a season-high 17 kills, hit .429, had four digs and also had two services as Butler won at Pratt. With the victories, Butler finishes 10-6 in Jayhawk Conference play, good for a third-place finish in the league. It is Butler's highest conference finish in 15 years under head coach Rick Younger. The Grizzlies will face Garden City at home in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday.
