Butler's cross-country runner Tarik Xavier and volleyball's Sydney Scanlon have been selected as the Butler Athletes of the Week, presented by White Eagle Credit Union.

Tarik Xavier, Cross-Country

Tarik Xavier, freshman from St. Lucia, was the lead runner for the Grizzly Men’s Cross-Country team this past weekend at the Chili Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, AR. Tarik finished 65th out of 346 runners in the Men’s 8K race. He ran a 27:09.3 which was his best 8K of the season cutting 12-seconds off his last race.

Sydney Scanlon, Volleyball

Sydney Scanlon, sophomore setter from El Dorado, KS, posted a career high 47 set assists in the Grizzlies 3-1 victory over Northeast (NE) last Friday and helped lead Butler to a 3-1 weekend. Scanlon, in five matches this week, finished with 169 set assists. She also added in 27 digs, seven blocks and four aces on the week. Sydney is currently 5th in the Jayhawk East in total assists (591) and assists/set at 8.21. 

*Sydney had back to back games of 44 assists last season against Pratt and Independence. She recorded 43 earlier this year against Barton.
