Butler football's Brock Sturges and Soccer's Sandra Thiman have been selected as the Butler Athletes of the Week, presented by White Eagle Credit Union.

Brock Sturges, freshman running back from Allen, TX, had a huge day on the ground Saturday rushing for 225 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns in the Grizzlies 33-13 win over Coffeyville. Sturges had two long runs of 54 and 68-yards in the first quarter to give Butler a 13-0 lead, both were the only plays of the drive for the Grizzlies. Sturges accounted for 138 of Butler’s 139 total yards in the first quarter. Sturges continued to power through the Coffeyville front lines as he averaged 9.4 yards per carry in the game. After Saturday, Sturges now leads the nation in rushing touchdowns with six and total rushing yards at 462. He is also second in rushing yards per game at 115.5.
Sandra Thiman, Soccer
Sandra Thiman, sophomore from Stockholm, Sweden, continues to do it at both ends of the field for the #6 ranked Grizzlies. Thiman anchored a Butler team that picked up a big KJCCC road win at #18 Johnson County by a score of 1-0 last Wednesday afternoon. Thiman then, in a 1-1 game, scored the go-ahead goal at home against Coffeyville in the Grizzlies 3-1 victory. Both wins moved the Grizzlies to the top of the KJCCC East. Thiman now leads the team with four goals and eight points, with two game winners on the season.
