Butler soccer player Kyrah Klumpp and Grizzly football player AJ King have been selected as the Butler Athletes of the Week, presented by White Eagle Credit Union.

Kyrah Klumpp, Soccer

Klumpp, the 5-5 sophomore from Valley Center, KS, was big for the No. 6 Grizzlies picking up two road wins against top KJCCC opponents last week. Klumpp recorded 10 saves in a 3-2 road win at Johnson County during the midweek matchup. She followed that performance up with three saves in a 2-1 victory at No. 12 Cowley over the weekend. Klumpp now has five wins on the season to go along with her 44 saves and a 1.56 goals against average. Klumpp was also named the KJCCC Goalkeeper of the week, her third time in four weeks.

AJ King, Football

AJ King, sophomore wide receiver and return specialist from Wichita, KS, was huge for the Grizzlies Saturday in Butler’s 50-49 overtime loss to No. 10-ranked Snow. King totaled 348 all-purpose yards in the loss. Not only was he a threat downfield as a wide receiver but also as a kick and punt returner. King caught 11 passes for 158 yards with a long of 44-yards and touchdown. As a returner, King had two kick returns with an average of 44-yards per return with a long of 47. He had three punt returns on the day and took one to the house for 82-yards and a touchdown tying the game in the fourth quarter at 35-35. King’s 82-yard punt return is the 5th longest in program history. King was also voted as the Conference Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week.
