2012 Mountain Oyster Feed raises record $35,000

The 9th Annual GrizzlyBacker Mountain Oyster Feed was the most successful in the history of the event so far.

Approximately $35,000 was raised in support of Butler Athletics on Friday, March 30 at the Butler County Community Building in downtown El Dorado. There were 22 corporate sponsors and more than 500 tickets sold, both of which set event records.

“We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event so successful,” Butler Athletic Director Todd Carter said. “We know this is an event that many people look forward to attending each spring and the support we receive from the community really does make a positive impact on Butler athletics.”

The event featured an all-you-can eat buffet of mountain oysters, fried catfish and other side items. More than 750 pounds of mountain oysters and nearly 200 pounds of catfish were eaten.

There was also a silent auction, which featured items including a three-night cabin stay in Idaho, a signed Butler football helmet and a workday by the women’s soccer team.

Gold sponsors were Albert Hogoboom, Ramon Criss, Ted Dankert, John Banks, Drisco, Hartman Oil, CDH Incorporated, Mid-America Anesthesia, Savage Services, C-Tech Industrial Group, Inc., Sundgren Realty, Butler REC/Regional Energy Group, El Dorado Livestock Auction and Tire Centers, Inc.

Purple sponsors were Buckeye Supply, Dr. Larry Abraham, McCollom Construction, PK Safety, Sunrise Oilfield Supply, John K. Fisher, Trimble and Maclasky Oil/DAB Building Systems and OneSource Technology.

Since its inception, the GrizzlyBacker Mountain Oyster Feed has raised more than $250,000. It is the largest annual fundraiser for Butler Athletics, with proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund for Butler student-athletes.

Butler is a member of the Jayhawk Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association. The Grizzlies are currently in first place in the NATYCAA Cup Standings for NJCAA scholarship athletic programs.
