Baseball Splits Series With Butler

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC baseball team faced Butler in a four-game series this past week, where the squad split the set winning two games. The Blue Devils defeated the Grizzlies 8-3 on Wednesday and 10-8 on Saturday, while falling 14-7 and 19-7 in the other two contests.

The team is now 8-2 on the season.

WEDNESDAY
In the first game, the Blue Devils got out to a fast start. After hitting five home runs last weekend, Brady Patterson delivered a two-run home run in the first inning making it 2-0. Butler answered back with one run, before Jett Buck connected on a long ball to also score Tyler Jenness.

KCKCC would take a 4-1 lead to the fifth inning. The Grizzlies added one run in the fifth and sixth innings to cut the deficit, but a big seventh inning for the Blue Devils made it 8-3 where they scored four runs in the frame. Buck hit his second home run of the game, before Parker McGee hit a two-run shot.

Buck and McGee each had two hits to lead the team. Buck also had four RBI.

Game two featured the Blue Devils getting out to an early lead again. Jase Woita scored McGee on a RBI single in the first inning, but the Grizzlies bounced back and got a run in the second to tie the score at 1-1. The Blue Devils' offense stalled a bit, and Butler was able to score 10 runs over the course of the next three innings.

KCKCC scored three runs in the seventh making it 11-4 Butler. But each time the Blue Devils added runs to the board, the Grizzlies answered back[KR1] , putting them in the driver's seat for a 14-7 win.

McGee added two hits in the game, while Payton McHarg and Woita each had two RBI.

SATURDAY
The Blue Devils split both games on Saturday's slate, winning 10-8 and falling 19-7.

KCKCC fell behind 3-1 in the first game of the day, but quickly put up three runs in the third inning. After a scoreless fourth frame, the Grizzlies tied it up at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning. But a four-run bottom half for the Blue Devils gave the squad more momentum. KCKCC scored two more runs and survived a late rally to win 10-8.

Jackson Mervosh and Austin Burroughs each had two hits. Burroughs added three RBI, while Brady Patterson tacked on a home run.

In the final game of the series, the Grizzlies took the upper hand. After breaking a 1-1 tie in the third inning, Butler scored eight runs in the fourth and never relinquished the lead. KCKCC added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but it was too late for a comeback.

Patterson had three hits for the squad and Lee Allen Jr. scored two runs.

The team is back in action on Wednesday when they play in El Dorado, Kan. against Butler at 12 p.m.
