MCC volleyball splits pair of Friday games in Kansas

MCC volleyball splits pair of Friday games in Kansas

EL DORADO, Kan. The McCook Community College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Power Plant at the Butler Community College campus in Kansas Friday. The Lady Indians dropped the first match to Butler 3-1 then came back to down Hesston 3-1.

"We made some changes to positions last week and moved some players around and today was their first time in their new areas," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. "There was some great things that came out of these moves and I can't wait to see our lineup improve tomorrow."

MCC goes to 6-5 on the season and the string of games against eight straight Kansas opponents continues Saturday in Salina as the Lady Indians play Friends University at noon and Kansas Wesleyan University at 2 p.m.

"We did have three freshmen that I really thought brought the heat and showed they want to be in the lineup," Kobza said.

On Thursday MCC travels to Garden City for the third matchup of the year against the Broncbusters for a 6 p.m. On Friday it's on to Arkansas City for a 6:30 p.m. matchup with Cowley College and against Coffeyville Community College at 10 a.m. Sept. 14.

MCC's next home game will be Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. against Central Community College.

GAME 1: Butler CC 3, MCC 1. The Grizzlies snapped a five match losing stream in the first game of the afternoon beating MCC 25-18, 25 20, 23-25, 25-22. The Grizzlies improved to 3-5 with the win.
Freshman Fernanda Canedo, (Cochabamba, Boliva) led MCC with nine kills and two assists. Freshman Mackenzie Anderson, (Ogallala) was credited with eight kills and a solo block
Sophomore Mallory Brown, (Colorado Springs) had seven kills and an ace. Freshman Emily Barr (Hershey) had five kills.
Freshman Jayceea Hanson (McCook) had five kills, five assist blocks, and one solo block. Sophomore Maddie Kleewein (North Platte) had two assist blocks.

GAME 1: MCC 3, Hesston College 1. The Lady Indians dropped the first set 19-25 but came back to win three straight, 25-10, 25-17, 25-22.
Mallory Brown paced the Lady Indians with nine kills and an assist block. Mackenzie Anderson added seven kills and a solo block.
Freshman Kallie Cathcart (Holly, Colo.) had six kills, two solo blocks and three assist blocks. Sophomore Bailey Honn (McCook) had five kills and two assist blocks
Fernanda Canedo had five kills, an ace and an assist block. Emily Barr had five kills, one assist block, and five aces.
The Larks fall to 5-5. MCC swept Hesston in the North Platte tournament Aug. 24.
