For the second straight year, the Butler baseball team is headed to Wichita after winning a sub-regional championship.

The Grizzlies (29-28) scored four runs in the first inning and didn't look back, crushing three home runs on their way to a 6-2 win over Kansas City Kansas Community College. The win secured the best-of-three series for the Grizzlies, who lost the opener but won the final two games to take the series.

Butler will now advance to face the No. 1 team in the nation as they take on Cowley at 7 p.m. on Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The Tigers (49-3) swept a pair of games from Colby to advance.

Against KCK in game three, Butler starter Austin Weiser walked two batters as the Blue Devils loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first inning, but he got a ground ball to end the inning.

Butler wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Ty Redington and Zach Baker both singled and then scored on a three-run homer to left by Cory Slater. Later in the inning, Bryant Kluesner singled and then scored on a double to left by John Gardner, making the score 4-0.

KCK would load the bases again in the second and put two on in the third inning, but both times failed to score against Weiser. The Blue Devils did finally get on the board in the fourth, making it a 4-2 game.

Weiser would face one batter in the top of the fifth and allowed a base hit. Butler coach BJ McVay went to the bullpen and brought in reliever Travis Edgar.

Edgar would throw five scoreless innings and earn the win for the Grizzlies.

Butler, meanwhile, added insurance runs with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh from Cory Slater and a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth by Ty Redington.

For Slater, it his second multiple-homer game of the season. He also had two in a game at Dodge City on March 21. He now leads Butler with 12 home runs.
