Meek throws no hitter and Hyde follows up with a perfect game; Grizzlies complete four-game sweep of Cardinals

It was a good week for the Butler pitchers as Braden Meek tossed a no hitter Thursday in the Grizzlies 15-0 win over Labette. Braxton Hyde would raise the bar even higher Saturday as he threw a perfect game on the mound in the Grizzlies 14-0 win over Labette to complete the four-game sweep.

Butler defeated KJCCC East opponent Labette in all four games winning 7-3, 15-0 (6-innings), 13-3 (5-innings) and 14-0 (5-innings) to improve to 26-12 on the season.

On Thursday, Braden Meek tossed a no hitter improving to 6-2 on the year pitching six innings, with no hits, no runs, he walked three and struck out six while hitting one batter by the pitch. 

Saturday, Braxton Hyde threw the first perfect game of the season for a Butler pitcher as he went all five innings in the Grizzlies 14-0 run-rule win. Hyde faced 15 batters, allowing no hits, no walks, no runs and struck out eight. 

The Butler pitching core had a strong week, but the Grizzlies offensive was also clicking all weekend long as the Grizzlies recorded 51 hits in the series and hit 11 homeruns in the four games played against the Cardinals while also recording 13 stolen bases. Josh Cameron led the way with three improving his season total to 20 which puts him third in the nation and Jonah Cox had two on Saturday. 

Cox was 9-16 in the series with six runs scored, three doubles, two homeruns, six RBI's and five stolen bags.  Tanner Leslie went 7-11 at the plate with three doubles, a homerun and two stolen bases.

NEXT UP: Butler will play a non-conference double header with Kansas Wesleyan University on Monday, May 3rd at 3:00 and 5:00pm. Butler will play their final KJCCC West series of the season this week as they play host to Pratt on Thursday, May 6th in a double header starting at 1:00pm and will finish with games three and four on Saturday on the road at Pratt.
