Grizzlies open up KJCCC play with double header split with Blue Dragons

The Butler Grizzlies split the first doubleheader of a four game series at McDonald Stadium, losing the first game 6-5 before winning 8-6 in the final game of the doubleheader against rivals Hutchinson in El Dorado on Wednesday.

Game One

A valiant comeback fell just short in the first game of the day, as Hutchison scored five runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead, before the Grizzlies scored four in the seventh, but could not come all the way back.

Bryce Zimmerer drove in two RBIs and the Grizzlies plated six runs on five hits.

Game Two

A Cooper Torres two run homer in the sixth inning provided the difference in the second game of the day, breaking open a 5-5 tie as the Grizzlies would not trail for the rest of the day. Cache Stone hit the other home run, a solo shot to right field, in the second inning, and the Grizzlies scored eight runs on 11 hits in the victory. Butler was excellent on the base paths, as five different Grizzly players stole a base in the second game.

Tyler Leachner earned his third win of the season in relief, allowing only two runs on eight hits. Brady Friesen recorded his first save of the season, holding the Dragons scoreless in the final two innings to persevere the victory.

The doubleheader split improves the Grizzlies record to 10-6, and they'll hope to win the series as the two teams shift to Hutchinson for a doubleheader this weekend.
