Butler splits Saturday double header, finish series with split against Saints

The Butler Grizzlies baseball team settled for a split with the Seward Saints on Saturday, avenging a game one shutout loss with an incredible 23-1 game two victory to split the doubleheader in Liberal and finish 2-2 with the Saints in the series.

Game One

The Grizzlies could not muster anything at the plate, getting shutout and totaling just four hits in the first game as they would fall 4-0. Seward blew the game open with a three RBI triple in the fifth inning. Zach Brink was the lone offensive figure in game one, earning two of the Grizzlies' hits, including a double.

Game Two

Whatever wasn't working in the first game, the Grizzlies figured out in the second. Butler rolled all over the Saints in the final game of the series, scoring 23 runs on 18 hits. The Grizzlies, who lead the league in home runs this season, got two more in the form of a three run home run from Paul Schoenfield and a grand slam from Jackson Syring. Syring finished the game with six RBIs, while Bryce Zimmerer had four. Six different Butler players finished with two or more hits, led by Brink's four.

Corbin Tally earned his first win of the year, going five innings and giving up only one run on three hits, striking out four.

The Grizzlies' record will move to 14-8 after Saturday's action, they'll return home to host Coffeyville in a one game, nine inning affair with the Ravens at McDonald Stadium on Tuesday.
