The Butler Grizzlies avenged two losses against Barton on Thursday, coming back to the friendly confines of McDonald Stadium to return the favor in a sweep of the Cougars in a double header in El Dorado on Saturday, winning game one 3-2 in walk off fashion before finishing the sweep with a 4-1 victory to earn a series split.
Game One
Cooper Torres drove in Josh Holmes for the winning run on an error by the Barton third baseman in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Grizzlies won the first game in a nail biter.
Holmes starred in the game, earning three of Butler's five hits, going 3-4 with a double. Torres earned two RBIs despite not earning a hit.
It was a shutdown performance by Izack Tiger, going six innings and allowing just two runs on five hits, striking out seven, but Andrew Wisner was the pitcher who was credited with the win, his first of the season, as he shut out the Cougars in relief.
Game Two
It was a complete game from Corbin Tally, pitching all nine innings and allowing only one run on four hits and striking out eight players. With the win, he improves to 3-0 on the season.
The Grizzlies offense mustered up just four hits but it was enough. Butler jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning despite not getting a hit. Holmes doubled down the left field line in the second to give the Grizzlies a commanding 3-0 lead that they never surrendered.
The Grizzlies will improve to 16-10 on the year with the series split and they'll head to Chanute for a game with Neosho on Tuesday before returning to conference play with a doubleheader against Cloud County at McDonald Stadium on Thursday.
