The Butler Grizzlies earned a series split in the absolute wildest of circumstances against Dodge City, splitting a double header on the road against the Conquistadors, losing the first game, 5-3 on a walkoff homerun but answered with an 11-8 victory in game two. The Grizzlies lost the first game 10-8 on Friday in El Dorado, but salvaged the series with a four hour, thirty minute long slugfest that was interrupted by a 30 minute delay due to the lights going out at McDonald Stadium in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Grizzlies walked it off to win 16-15 in thrilling fashion to take the split.
Game One
The Grizzlies scored three runs on nine hits, but Dodge rallied with a four run ninth inning to win, walking off with a home run in the ninth.
Game Two
Butler got two home runs from Josh Holmes and Sam Siegel to earn the victory. The Grizzlies earned the win with four runs in the first and four in the second. Siegel starred with four RBIs as Butler finished with 11 runs on 11 hits.
Zack Brink earned his second win of the year, pitching four innings and allowing six runs, striking out four batters.
Game Three
Zack Stroh hit a two run homer in the third, but the Conquistadors were able to rattle off six runs in the sixth inning to secure game three of the series.
Game Four
The Grizzlies were able to come from behind in three straight innings to finish the game scoring four in the eighth, six runs in the bottom of the ninth, and four runs in the bottom of the tenth to clinch the game on a walk off Zach Stroh single after a delay in a game that lasted four hours and 30 minutes.
Butler was down 12-6 in the bottom of the ninth but were able to come back to tie the game, powered by a Hayden Dyer three run home run. After Dodge City hit a three run home run in their half of the tenth, Butler answered off a two RBI triple from Cooper Torres before Stroh's heroics.
Stroh was the hero of the day, finishing with a home run, and four RBIs, including the game winner.
Andrew Wisner earned the win despite pitching only one inning, his first of the season.
Butler's record improves to 28-18 with the split, and 16-12 in conference play. Butler will play a non conference series against Cowley next week, playing at home on Thursday with a doubleheader against the Tigers at McDonald Stadium.
