Grizzlies drop a pair to No. 6-ranked Cowley

The Butler Grizzlies opened the week with a two game series against Cowley in a rematch of last year's Region VI title game at McDonald Stadium on Thursday. It was the Tigers who took both games, winning 10-1 in game one before locking down the sweep with an 11-6 win.

Game 1

A fantastic pitching performance limited the Grizzlies to just one run on two hits in the first game of the day. Hayden Dyer's solo shot to left field in the seventh inning prevented the shutout but wasn't enough as the Tigers were able to take game one in blowout fashion.

Game Two

The Grizzlies offense woke up in game two, powered by two home runs from Cooper Torres, who now has 12 on the year. Paul Schoenfeld and Sam Siegel also hit home runs as the Grizzlies scored six runs on 10 hits. Siegel and Torres both knocked in two RBIs to lead the team, but the Grizzlies were unable to overcome a six run inning for the Tigers, who led the rest of the way to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Grizzlies will have the chance to look for a split with the Tigers as the series shifts to Arkansas City for two games on Saturday. The sweep will drop Butler's record on the season to 28-20.
