GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Butler football team put up a season-high 648 yards of offense and scored the final 49 points of the game in a 56-6 road win over Garden City at Broncbuster Stadium.

Butler scored on its first offensive play of the game – a 61-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Damarcus Smith to receiver Marquel Wade. Butler got the ball back and drove into Garden City territory but failed on convert on a fake punt on fourth down.

The Broncbusters took advantage, driving 70 yards and scoring on a 19-yard screen pass from Graham to Deondre Cooksey. The extra point was blocked and Butler clung to a narrow 7-6 lead.

The Grizzlies would turn the ball over on both of their next two possessions, but the defense held Garden City each time, blocking a field goal on the second drive. 

Butler turned around and drove the ball into the red zone, converting on a field goal of its own. The 28-yard kick was the longest of the season for kicker AJ Larocca and put Butler up 10-6.

The Grizzlies would get one last touchdown in the first half, getting a four-yard run by Ja'Mon Cotton with 19 seconds left before halftime. The extra point was missed, but Butler had a 16-6 lead at intermission.

Butler dominated the second half, scoring touchdowns on its first three possessions in the third quarter with a 25-yard pass from Damarcus Smith to Bryce Chavis, a 23-yard run by Dalton Buehler and a 1-yard run by Kickobe McCrary.

Damarcus Smith completed 22 of 33 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns, while Joel Blumenthal completed 8 or 9 passes for 93 yards. 

Ja'Mon Cotton ran 11 times for 72 yards, while Dalton Buehler had seven carries for 63 yards. Julian Burris had three receptions for 80 yards and Michael Gallup had four catches for 77 yards.

The Grizzlies, now 6-3 on the season and 4-2 in Jayhawk Conference play, reamin on the road for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Highland next week. The Scotties are 5-4 after falling to Hutchinson and Coffeyville in the previous two weeks.
