Butler remains 19th in NJCAA football rankings

For the second consecutive week, Butler football remained ranked 19th in the NJCAA Top 20 National poll.

Butler (6-3 overall, 4-2 KJCCC) defeated Garden City 56-6 on Saturday and received 20.5 votes this week - an increase of 5.5 votes from the previous week. The Grizzlies are one of two three-loss teams in the poll.

There was a change at the top of the poll, as Iowa Western knocked East Mississippi out of the top spot with a 58-34 win over No. 4 Hutchinson. Despite receiving just three of the nine first-place votes, Iowa Western moved into the No. 1 spot with 205 votes - just five more votes than East Mississippi, who received five first-place votes. Trinity Valley, Texas, remained ranked third, while Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mississippi Gulf Coast moved up to fourth and fifth, respectively.

For the sixth straight week, three KJCCC teams - Hutchinson, Butler and Coffeyville - were ranked this week's poll. Hutchinson moved down three spots to seventh after losing to Iowa Western, while Coffeyville moved up one spot to No. 14 with a 49-24 home win against Highland.

Butler will travel to Highland this Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest. The Scotties (5-4 overall, 2-3 conference) have lost two straight games to ranked competition on the road (58-35 at Hutchinson on Oct. 18, 49-24 at Coffeyville last Saturday). Prior to the two losses, Highland had won four in a row.
