It has been a hot start four weeks into the season for the Grizzlies as they remain #2 in this week's NJCAA National Poll.
Butler came into last week tied in votes with Kilgore in the two spot but with a Kilgore loss and Butler win, the Grizzlies stand alone at #2 this week. Butler defeated Coffeyville 33-13 this past Saturday improving to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in KJCCC play.
The Grizzlies did, however, this week, receive more first place votes (6) than the previous week (5) while Hutchinson claimed the most with (10) first place votes.
Two of the Grizzlies four wins have come over ranked opponents this season. They defeated Iowa Central in week one 42-10 as the Tritons were then #14 and now have moved up to #7. A 36-17 victory over Snow (UT) in week two would launch the Grizzlies into the top 5 and bump Snow down a peg, but the Badgers hold firm at #16 this week with a 2-2 record.
Hutchinson still holds the top spot in the nation with a record of 4-0 with wins over Ellsworth, Independence, Iowa Western and Fort Scott. The Blue Dragons will head into their bye week as the Grizzlies face winless Dodge City on Saturday night in El Dorado. A Butler win on Saturday, will likely set up a #1 vs #2 matchup the following week in Hutchinson as the Grizzlies travel for a 12:00pm kick on Saturday, September 28.
Other KJCCC schools: Garden City fell ten spots in the poll to #18 after a loss to Independence which then elevated the Pirates into the poll at #20. Fort Scott dropped out from #17 to receiving votes after a loss to Hutchinson Saturday night.
