Kerrick Sanders begins his fourth season on the Butler coaching staff, where he will be the assistant defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator.

Last season, Sanders helped the Grizzlies finish 8-3 overall, a Jayhawk Conference runner-up finish and a final ranking of 15th in the NJCAA poll. Under Sanders, cornerback Jadarius Byrd received second-team All-Conference honors. Butler finished atop the NJCAA in passing yards per game (98.4). The Grizzlies also finished first in the conference in both points allowed (16.9) and total yards allowed per game (214.5).

During the 2016 season, Sanders coached his first All-KJCCC first-team selection in Octavious Morgan, while the Grizzlies participated in the Salt City Bowl and had a final NJCAA season ranking of 17th.

In his first year at Butler, Sanders helped Butler ascend to the No. 1 ranking in the NJCAA after an 8-0 start to the season. He coached two All-Jayhawk Conference performers, as Octavious Morgan was a second-team selections and Desean Washington was honorable mention. Morgan was also named the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week after intercepting three passes in a 40-7 win over Iowa Western. Sophomore Jamario McClendon transferred to Missouri State after the season.

Sanders comes to Butler after having spent the 2014 season as the defensive backs coach at Eastern Arizona Community College. Under Sanders' guidance, Eastern Arizona led the WSFL in pass defense (129 yards per game) and ranked seventh nationally. Two defensive backs (Wesley Bailey, Utah State; Corey Hall, Ball State) were both named first-team All-WSFL and four went on to play Division I football.

He also worked two seasons (2004-2005) as the cornerbacks coach at Lane College in Jackson, Tenn., where the Dragons led the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in pass defense. During that time, Sanders coached consensus All-American and current NFL wide receiver Jacoby Jones and all-conference cornerback Reggie Ingle.

Sanders also worked one season (2003) as the defensive backs coach at New Mexico Military Institute, where he helped the Broncos lead the WSFL pass defense. Sanders coached Sadeke Konte, who played Division I football at Temple University.

Sanders played two seasons (1998-99) at New Mexico Military Institute under then-defensive coordinator and current Butler head coach Tim Schaffner. During the 1999 season, Sanders helped the Broncos to the Canon Empire State Bowl and was named a consensus NJCAA All-American, a JC Gridwire Scholar Athlete All-American, and received the NMMI Bronco Athlete of the Year award. In addition to playing football at NMMI, Sanders also played baseball.

Following NMMI, Sanders played at North Carolina State University (2000-2002).

A Stone Mountain, Ga., native, Sanders was a three-sport athlete (baseball, football and basketball) at Stone Mountain High School.
