Butler posts season high point total in 108-46 win

The Butler men's basketball team scored a season-high in points in a 108-46 win over Southwestern JV on Monday night at the Power Plant.


The Grizzlies jumped ahead 21-0 in the first half and led 60-16 at halftime. The final margin of 62 points was Butler's largest lead of the game. Butler's previous high for points was in the season opening 104-39 win over KSU-Salina.

Butler assistant Jon Craig served as the head coach for Butler in the contest, as Mike Bargen missed the game due to his wife, Kacy, giving birth to their third child, Maddox Michael Bargen, earlier in the afternoon.

Butler was led by Eric Clark's 18 points. He was one of five Grizzlies in double figures as Zach Bargen had 15, Justin Simmons had 13, Cameron Cornelius had 12 and Keenan Harper had 10. Harper also had 10 rebounds to record a double-double, while Andrew Victoria led Butler with 12 rebounds.

Others scoring for Butler were Lane Lindhorst and Eric Watson with nine apiece, Cody Bernbeck with eight, Victoria with seven, Ja'ln Williams with five and Toles Hartman with two.

The Grizzlies improve to 5-6 on the season with the win and will now head to Coffeyville for the Juco Elite Eight tournament this weekend. Butler will open action at 4 p.m. on Thursday against Iowa Western, which enters the tournament with a 9-1 record. The two teams have played one common opponent in Missouri State-West Plains, who played both teams on the road, with Butler winning 83-70 in the Power Plant and Iowa Western winning 71-65 in Council Bluffs.

Butler will then, depending on a win or a loss, will play either Independence or Moberly (Mo.) on Friday and finish the tournament on Saturday.
