Butler controls second half in 77-67 home win over Colby

The Butler men controlled the second half of play in a 77-67 win over Colby on Saturday night at the Power Plant.

Butler fell behind early, 17-10, and still trailed by six points with 2:24 left to play in the first half before going on a 7-0 run before intermission, capped by a Sean Osler bucket in the paint that put Butler in front 33-32 at the break.

The Grizzlies then outscored Colby 27-13 in the first 10 minutes of the second half, building a 60-45 lead after a basket by Zac Bargen. Colby made a run of its own to get within four points, 69-65, with 2:24 to play but the Grizzlies were solid from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the victory.

Sean Osler scored 21 points to lead Butler on a night when he also earned the Brian Jackson Most Inspirational Player award. Lane Lindhorst scored 13 points and Zac Bargen added 10 points while Andrew Victoria had a team-high 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies in the winning effort.

Colby had three players in double figures as well, led by Kristan Rolle and Vincent Dillard with 16 points apiece.

Butler improves to 9-17 on the season and 3-9 in Jayhawk West Conference play. Butler remains a game ahead of Pratt in the conference standings and will face the Beavers head-to-head on Wednesday night in a road game at 8 p.m.
