Butler races past Allen County in second half of 90-67 win

The Butler men dominated the second half of a 90-67 win over Allen County on Tuesday at the Power Plant, staying undefeated on the season.

Butler sprinted out to a 10-3 lead early in the game, but Allen would come back to take a 23-21 lead on a basket by Ben Uno with 5:51 left in the first half. The Grizzlies answered with 10 straight points, capped by a thunderous dunk by Trent Richardson that put Butler up 31-23 with 2:57 to play.

Allen would battle back just before the half, getting within a point of Butler at halftime at 33-32.

Butler was still leading by just four points with 16 minutes to play before Sean Osler and Trent Richardson made back-to-back 3-pointer to make it a 50-40 Grizzlies' lead.

The Grizzlies eventually built the lead to more than 20 points, with their biggest lead coming when Isiah Bradshaw hit a 3-pointer with 46 seconds to play for the final margin of the contest.

Freshman Jordan Madrid-Andrews had the best night of his short collegiate career by scoring 23 points and pulling down nine rebounds for the Grizzlies. Fellow freshman Trent Richardson also played well, scoring 16 points with 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.

Sean Osler reached double digits for the third time in as many games this season with 14 for Butler. He was the only other Grizzly in double figures. Allen County's Cameron Blue was the high-point man in the game with 27 to lead the Red Devils.

Butler is now 3-0 on the season, undefeated after three games for the first time since the team won the Jayhawk West Conference and Region VI championships in 2009-10.

The Grizzlies will now head to Coffeyville for a pair of games. Butler plays Labette on the neutral floor at 5 p.m. on Friday and faces No. 19 Coffeyville at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
