Butler men top century mark, better last season's win total

The Butler men topped the century mark in points for the second time this season with a 107-51 win over Southwestern JV on Wednesday at the Power Plant.

In the early going, it looked as if the game might be even more lopsided than it ended up. The Grizzlies scored the first 23 points of the night and led 31-2 with 10:49 left in the first half after consecutive monster dunks by Trent Richardson.

The Grizzlies eased up a bit defensively as the first half came to a close, but still led 60-26 at the break. The second half was more of the same. Butler broke the 100-point mark on a layup by Eric Watson that made the score 101-45 with 3:52 to play in the game.

Butler had four players in double figures, led by Sean Osler with 18. Eric Watson scored 16, Lamont Pruitt had 15 and Bakari Triggs and Trent Richardson scored 14 points apiece. Watson ended up with a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Butler is now 11-2 on the season, already one more win than the team had during the 2011-12 season. The Grizzlies will play their final game of the first semester on Saturday when they take on No. 21 Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa (12-1) at 7:30 in the Power Plant. Butler will be looking to avenge one of their two losses, as the Jets beat the Grizzlies 64-59 in November.
