Butler wins fourth straight with 83-71 win over Pratt

Shomari Triggs and Larry Fitzgerald scored 18 points each to help the Butler men defeat Pratt 83-71 Wednesday at the Power Plant.

The Grizzlies (6-1 overall), who have won four straight games, also received 17 points from Bakari Triggs, while Sean Goodwin added 10 in the victory.

Pratt (5-3) gave the Grizzlies a battle in the first half, which featured 10 lead changes and four ties. Butler would take the lead for good with a 7-0 run before the halftime break.

With Butler trailing 30-29 at the 1:18 mark in the opening half, Shomari Triggs drained a three-pointer from the far corner to give the Grizzlies a two-point lead. Larry Fitzgerald added a field goal on the next possession, then Bakari Triggs put back a miss just before the buzzer sounded to give Butler a 36-30 halftime lead.

Leading 50-45 midway through the second half, Butler made a key 12-2 run to push the lead to 15 points. Dominque O'Connor started the run with a three-pointer, then Bakari Triggs made consecutive field goals. After Pratt's Merrill Holden threw down a dunk, Shomari Triggs put Butler up 62-47 with a two-point jumper and a three-point play.

Pratt closed the gap to six points with just over five minutes remaining, but Butler would pull away hitting 10-of-13 free throws in the final 4:20.

The Grizzlies will head to out west for the two-day Dodge City Classic, where they will square off against two former Jayhawk West division rivals. Butler will play Seward County (3-3) on Friday at 5 p.m., then take on Dodge City (7-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
