Butler men rally from 18 down to win at Brown Mackie in OT

SALINA, Kan. – The Butler men were able to rally from 15 points down in the final 3:45 on Tuesday against Brown Mackie, eventually forcing the game to overtime and winning 94-92 at the Kansas State-Salina gymnasium. 

Butler trailed by nine at the half, 47-38, and the deficit grew in the second half to as many as 18 points. Over the final four minutes, the Grizzlies scored on nine straight possessions to tie the game at 82-82. The Grizzlies actually had the ball with 12 seconds left in regulation, but were unable to score, forcing the overtime. 

In the overtime period, Butler got the winning basket from Larry Fitzgerald on an assist by Sean Goodwin. Goodwin led Butler in the game with 22 points, also adding five rebounds and three assists. Bakari Triggs added 19 points and a team-high seven assists. Trent Richardson had 17 points off the bench with four assists and four rebounds, while Larry Fitzgerald had 11 points and Calvin Johnson had 10, giving Butler five players in double figures.

The win moves Butler to 8-2 on the season. The Grizzlies are off for Thanksgiving break, but will return home for their next game, a Monday evening contest against Johnson County. The Grizzlies are looking to take the season series from the Cavaliers after winning 92-70 in Overland Park on Nov. 16.
