Butler with five in double figures in 94-84 win over Allen

The Butler men snapped a three-game losing streak with a 94-84 win over Allen County on Wednesday at the Power Plant.

Butler had five players in double figures in the win, including two with double-doubles. Calean Neal led Butler with 23 points and had 10 rebounds, while Daven Joseph had 19 points and 14 rebounds. It is his second consecutive double-double and third in the past four games.

Also in double figures for Butler were Derrick Byrd with 18 points while Semaj Hervery had 12 and Rashawn Chapman scored 10.

The Grizzlies trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, but closed the period with a 15-5 run over the final 3:37. Two free throws by Hervey tied the game 42-42, then a steal led to a layup by Travis House with 1.1 seconds left. He was also fouled and made the free throw, putting Butler up 45-42 at the break.

In the second half, Butler continued to lead, but Allen would get as close as two points at 61-59 with 12:52 to go. That's when the Grizzlies responded with an 11-0 run to push the lead to 72-59 with 10:18 remaining.

The 94 points is the most by Butler in a conference game this year and the most since a 93-70 win over Washburn JV on Nov. 20.

Butler is now 12-10 on the season and 4-7 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Grizzlies will play at home again on Saturday, taking on third-place Pratt at 4 p.m.
