Butler men hold off Coffeyville in 82-73 road win

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - The Butler men started hot and were able to hold off Coffeyville for a critical 82-73 road win on Saturday at Nellis Hall.

Butler got a monster dunk from Johnnathan Lindsey and a 3-pointer from Will Adler to open up a 5-0 lead to start the game.

Coffeyville would eventually take a lead at 14-12 midway through the first half, but it was short lived. Butler regained the lead at 18-16 and surged late in the period to take a 35-27 lead at halftime. 

Butler then pushed the lead to 48-34 with 16 minutes to go, the largest lead of the game.

Coffeyville again surged back into the contest, getting it to a 58-53 game with 10 minutes to play. The Red Ravens got as close as two points with 3:39 left, but Kettarious Bouchum scored inside and was fouled with 3:23 left. His free throw put Butler back up by five at 75-70.

Jacolby Harris made two buckets sandwiched around a Coffeyville free throw and Butler effectively iced the game, leading 79-71 with 1:01 to go.

Harris led Butler with 19 points, one of five Butler players in double figures. LaJuan Hardy and Johnnathan Lindsey had 14 apiece. Will Adler had 12 points, making 4-8 shots from 3-point range. Ken Perkins had 11 points for Butler off the bench. He and Lindsey led Butler with 13 rebounds apiece, both recording double-doubles. Jacolby Harris had seven assists.

Butler shot 58 percent from the floor while Coffeyville was held to 38 percent shooting (26-68) including 21 percent from 3-point range (6-29).

Butler is now 9-5 overall, 6-5 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Grizzlies return home to face Neosho County on Wednesday.
