A 16-0 run midway through the second half turned an eight-point Butler lead into an eight-point deficit and the Grizzlies could not recover, falling 84-72 to arch-rival Hutchinson on Saturday at the Power Plant.

Butler had been 6-2 in its past eight home games against Hutchinson and looked to be in good shape through 30 minutes against the Blue Dragons in this matchup.

Butler led by as many as four points early before falling behind 27-20 with 8:35 left in the first half. The Grizzlies battled back to score the final four points of the half and take a 42-41 lead at intermission.

Butler then controlled the first five minutes of the second half, going up 55-49 on a monster dunk by Johnnathan Lindsey with 14:54 to go. Moments later, Ken Perkins made a layup and Butler led 57-49 with 14:35 remaining.

Hutch then took advantage of four straight layups to tie the game and continued to surge, scoring 16 straight to go up 65-57 with 10:42 remaining.

Hutchinson would push the lead to as many as 15, having outscored Butler 28-5 over an eight-minute span.

Butler was led by Ken Perkins with 21 points and six rebounds. Ketarrious Bouchum scored 18 and LaJuan Hardy scored 13.

Butler falls to 14-10 overall and 11-10 in Jayhawk Conference play, having lost four straight. The Grizzlies will be at home again on Wednesday, taking on Cloud County at 7:30 p.m.
