Butler men outlast Allen in first-round playoff victory at home

The Butler men won their fourth in a row, but more importantly, kept their season alive with a 90-71 victory over Allen County in the first round of the Region VI Tournament on Thursday at the Power Plant.

With the win, Butler (18-12) advances to the quarterfinals. The fifth-seeded Grizzlies will play No. 13 seed Pratt (11-19), which upended fourth-seeded Cloud County 78-75 on Thursday in Concordia.

Butler's four wins in this current streak have all been by 18 or more points – with an average margin of victory of 23 points per game. The Grizzlies jumped out to an early lead over Allen County, getting a 3-pointer from LaJuan Hardy and a steal and layup by Jacolby Harris to go up 5-0 in the opening minute of the game.

After four quick Allen County points, Butler answered with an 11-0 run, triggered by a 3-pointer by Will Adler. When Antferene Adams made a layup with 14:06 left in the half, Butler was up 16-4.

Allen would cut Butler's lead to six points, but the Grizzlies would again surge and pushed the lead to 20 points when a 3-pointer from LaJuan Hardy made it a 46-26 game with 1:25 to go in the half.

Butler led 48-30 at the break, and Allen would never get closer than 11 points in the second half as the Grizzlies closed out the playoff victory.

Ketarrious Bouchum led Butler with 21 points and also had eight rebounds. Antferene Adams continues to come on for Butler, recording a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jacolby Harris had 15 points in his final game at the Power Plant after two-plus seasons.

The Grizzlies shot 52 percent from the floor while holding Allen County to just 41 percent. Butler also dominated on the board, outrebounding the Red Devils by 19, 44-25. The Grizzlies added five blocked shots on the defensive end.
