Butler men race past Friends in home opener for first win

The Butler men earned their first win of the season with an 89-56 win over Friends University JV on Monday at the Power Plant.

Butler (1-2) never trailed in their home opener, scoring the first eight points of the game. Friends would cut the gap to four points before Sam Ward buried a 3-pointer with 13:07 left in the first half that put Butler up 14-7.

Butler pushed the lead to 20 points when Kamron Brice hit a 3-pointer with four minutes remaining in the first half.

The Grizzlies still led by 20 points before Friends scored the final four points of the half, cutting Butler's lead to 45-29 at the break.

Butler would build its lead to as many as 35 in the second half.

Juwan White led a balanced Butler scoring attack with 12 points, while Tyrone Coley scored 11 points. Kamron Brice and Jon'il Fugett had 10 points apiece. All 13 players for Butler scored at least two points in the game. Coley and Mohamed Fofana had eight rebounds apiece to lead the Grizzlies.

Butler will be back on the road Wednesday for a non-conference game at Hesston before returning to the Power Plant on Saturday for a 7 p.m. tipoff against Bethel JV.
