Butler men beat Garden City, 82-69, for second straight win

The Butler men led from beginning to end in an 82-69 win over Garden City at the Power Plant on Saturday, earning their second straight win and third in the past four games.

Butler jumped out to an immediate 5-0 lead over Garden on Saturday, getting a 3-pointer from Juwan White, followed by a layup from Jon'il Fugett. That was just the start of an impressive start for Butler as the Grizzlies would use an 11-0 run to go ahead 30-10 after a Chiddy Golden 3-pointer with 8:53 left in the first half.

Butler's biggest lead in the first half would be 33-12 after a Daviyon Dennis 3-pointer with 8:06 left that made it 33-12. Garden City would trim the lead, but Grizzlies would still lead 41-28 at intermission.

The Grizzlies were still up 60-46 with 11:08 to play following a Kamron Brice 3-pointer, but Garden City would make its best run of the game. The Broncbusters scored 11 straight points, and Butler was only up 60-57 with 7:19 remaining.

Dennis responded with a bucket that started an 8-0 Butler run and White would get hot, scoring seven straight points by himself as Butler pushed the lead back to double digits at 70-59 and effectively sealed the game.

White led Butler with 21 points, giving him 43 points in two games this week after scoring 22 at Pratt on Wednesday. Kamron Brice scored 18 and Immanuel Allen had 11 for Butler. He also led the team with eight rebounds. Tony Hopkins led Garden City with 12 points.

Butler, which is now 2-1 since the holiday break, improves to 11-6 overall and evens its Jayhawk Conference record at 4-4. The Grizzlies face Cloud County on Monday afternoon in a 1 p.m. tipoff at the Power Plant. Students from area elementary schools will attend the game.
