"It felt great," said Head coach Kyle Fisher after recording his first win as the Grizzlies head coach. "They are all fun, but there will only be one first win."
Butler defeated Kansas Wesleyan University junior varsity 113-84 behind a well-balanced offensive attack where all 11 players scored at least one basket.
"We have shown good depth since we got started," said Fisher. "We have known that on any given night there are several guys who can contribute. We were very balanced tonight and I was pleased to see everyone in uniform scored a basket."
Butler shot 62% from the field and 44% from deep on the night. They limited the Coyotes possessions by outrebounding them 42-25 while holding them to just nine offensive rebounds and only six points off those rebounds.
Grehlon Easter led the Grizzlies in scoring with 23 points and eight rebounds. Payton Dickerson finished with 17 points and five boards while Marque English scored 15 points going 7-9 from the floor and pulling down eight rebounds.
"Grehlon Easter and Marque English stood out for sure on Saturday combining to go 15-19 from the floor. Zach Butler also had a good night as it was great to see him back from injury and finding his rhythm," said Fisher.
Zach Butler finished the night with 13 points and a perfect 3-3 from three-point range. Tracy Jones recorded the first double-double of the season for Butler as he finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the contest. Sophomore guard Juwan White led in assists with four while scoring seven points.
"Overall, it felt good to see the guys in uniforms and to be out in front of the home crowd," commented Fisher. "Although we were not at our best on the defensive end, it was nice to get a win and get the season started off right."
The win marks the first head coaching victory for first year head coach Kyle Fisher at Butler and first ever head coaching win in his career.
"It felt great to get win number one. Winning a game at any level in college basketball is extremely hard. They are all fun, but there will only be one first win. It was pretty special to be able to enjoy it with all the players who seem to have bought in to what we are trying to build here at Butler," said Fisher.
Butler (1-0, 0-0) will head north to Iowa Western on Tuesday, November 5th to take on the Reivers before playing in the Hesston Classic on Friday and Saturday.
