Grizzlies struggle in 40-point road loss at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. – The Butler men suffered a 97-57 road loss Saturday night at Independence, which snapped a three-game winning streak.

Butler (14-5 overall, 7-3 conference) fell behind 48-29 at halftime, as Independence shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the field and 45.8 percent (11-of-24) behind the arc in the opening half.

The Grizzlies' woes continued in the second half, where they quickly fell behind 69-36 at the 13:36 mark. An 11-0 run pulled Butler back within 69-47 at the second half media timeout, but the 22-point margin would be as close as the Grizzlies would get.

Independence ended the game outscoring Butler 28-10 enroute to the victory. The 40-point loss is Butler's worst defeat since a 95-46 road loss on Nov. 3, 2010 at Independence.

Grehlon Easter led the Grizzlies with 14 points, while Juwan White added 11 in the loss. Butler shot just 32.1 percent (18-of-56) from the field, while Independence connected on 49.3 percent (36-of-73).

Butler travels to Garden City on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. contest, which is a makeup date from Jan. 11.
