The Butler Community College Track and Field Team traveled to Emporia State University to take part in the ESU Relays.
Remona Burchell had a great day finishing 2nd in the 100 meters and 3rd in the 200 meters and was the anchor leg on the 2nd place 4 x 100 meter relay. In the 100 Burchell's time of 11.52 is a new school record and the 4 x 100 meter relay team hit the national qualifying time. Other members of the 4 x 100 included Carole Idolphine, Cydnie Brown and Latesha Bigby. Bigby also qualified for nationals in the Long Jump and the final new national qualifier for the ladies was Fiona Masai in the 3000 Meter Steeple Chase.
On the men's side Kelvin Busienei hit the national qualifying standard in the 1500 meter run. Busienei finished 2nd in the race losing only to former Olympian Christian Smith, who was running unattached preparing for the 2012 Olympic Trials. Also having a good day for the men was Cameron Hampton. Hampton ran a personal best in the 100 and just missed making the final. He also ran a strong leg on both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays.
The next action for the Grizzlies and Lady Grizzlies will be Wednesday and Thursday at the Cowley Multi event meet and the KT Woodman Classic at Wichita State University on Friday and Saturday.
