Kelvin Busienei highlighted the Butler track and field teams at the KT Woodman Track Classic at Wichita State University on Friday and Saturday.
Busienei started the meet off by running a personal best time of 3:54.70 in the 1500 meter run, which is one of the top times this season in the NJCAA. Then, in the 800 meter, Busienei ran 1:53.53 in very windy conditions. Busienei started slowly through the first lap, but moved up into position by the halfway mark of the race. At that point, he made a strong move that even the top NCAA runners in the race could not cover as he went on to win his heat.
The WSU meet was one of two that Butler competed in during the week. The Grizzlies also traveled to Arkansas City for the Cowley Multis. Butler's Paige Slayton competed in the hetathlon, scoring 3,579 points over the two-day event. That is the third-best score in Butler history and is the ninth-best mark in the nation this season.
