LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Butler Grizzlies outdoor track and field team took 13 athletes to compete at the Kansas Relays this weekend.

Sophomore distance runner Fiona Masai hit the national qualifying standard in the 1500-meter run and improved on her qualifying time for the 3000-meter steeplechase. Masai currently ranks fourth in the NJCAA in the steeplechase and joins sophomore Latesha Bigby (long jump, high jump and 400-meter hurdles) as the only two Grizzlies to qualify for three individual events for the NJCAA Outdoor Championships. In addition to the 1500-meter run and steeplechase, Masai previously qualified in the 5000-meter run.

In the women's 400-meter hurdle event, Andrene Wells improved on her national qualifying mark by two seconds with a time of 1:05.59.

On the men's side, freshman sprinter Alfred Larry came away as the KU Relays Champion in the 400-meter dash. Larry crossed the finish line in 47.59 seconds in the finals.

The Butler track and field team will next be in action Saturday for the Ollie Isom Invitational, beginning at noon at BG Products Sports Complex.
