HIGHLAND, Kan. - In a final tuneup before the Region VI Championship meet, the Butler indoor track and field team had five first-place finishes at Saturday's Highland Challenge.
Justin Breaux and Evel Jones took top honors in the men's 200-meter and 500-meter dash, respectively, while the men's 4x800-meter relay team of Alfred Larry, Shaquille Alleyne, Max Surmeier and Edwin Serem also placed first.
On the women's side, freshman Brittany Lawrence - in her first meet of the season - won the 200-meter dash convincingly. Lawrence, a member of the Butler women's soccer team, also anchored the first-place 4x400-meter relay team with Sueshi-Ann Halliman, Janell Kidd and Kiarra Baker.
Butler will head to the University of Kansas on Friday to compete in the Region VI Indoor Championships. Events held at Anschutz Pavilion will begin at 9:15 a.m.
