LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Butler men's indoor track and field team added one more national individual qualifier at Friday's Region VI Indoor Championships, held at the University of Kansas.

Sophomore sprinter Justin Breaux hit a qualifying mark in the 200-meter dash with a fifth-place time of 22.29 seconds. Heading into the Region VI meet, Breaux's previous best time in the event was 22.46, just 13 milliseconds off the national qualifying standards.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Steven Calloway, Shaquille Alleyne, Evel Jones and Alfred Larry had the top finish of the meet for the Butler men. Having already qualified for nationals in the event, the relay team still managed to set a personal-best time of 3:16.55, despite running in the first heat. Butler finished third in the event, behind Colby (3:15.44) and Allen County (3:15.96).

Taking fifth place was the 4x800-meter relay team of Larry, Max Surmeier, Alleyne and Israel Mendoza, with a personal-best time of 8:06.02.

In the 400-meter dash, Calloway (49.97 seconds) and Jones (50.08 seconds) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Larry, who already qualified for nationals earlier this season in three events - 400m dash, 600m run and the 4x400m relay - placed sixth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.58.

As a team, Butler finished 10th overall with 22 points. Colby won the Region VI title with 160 points, followed by Coffeyville (117) and Allen County (94.5).

Next up for the Butler men will be the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York, N.Y. on March 7-8. The two-day event will be held at the New Balance Center at The Armory.
