Butler track has four national qualifiers in 2015 season opener

The Grizzlies finished with three first-place finishes and six third-place finishes at the meet, which was held at Wichita State University's Heskett Center.

All four national qualifying performances came on the men's side, with freshman sprinter Eli Hall-Thompson posting the fastest junior college time to date in the 60-meter dash. Thompson crossed the finish line with a time of 6.74 seconds, which is the fourth best time in school history. Thompson's time matches Chris Lewis of Meridian (Miss.) CC for first among junior college sprinters this season.

Freshman distance runner Albert Meier also took first in the men's 3000-meter run with a national qualifying time of 8:53.45 in the final event of the meet. In the men's 600-meter dash, freshman Shevon Blair finished third with a qualifying mark of 1:23.88, while sophomore Kennedy Chumba placed fifth with a qualifying time of 1:59.89 in the 800-meter run.

In field events, sophomore jumper Arsenije Savic won the men's triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 8.75 inches and freshman Joshua Sharp placed third in the men's long jump with a 21 feet, 1/2 inch mark.

On the women's side, sophomore distance runner Terra Flores and freshman sprinter Ona Giles placed third in two events each. Flores finished third in the 800-meter run and the 1-mile, while Giles took third in 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

The Grizzly track team will be back in action in two weeks, as part of the team will compete in the Cavalier Relays in Overland Park, KS on Friday, Jan. 30 and the Masked Rider Open in Lubbock, TX on Jan. 30-31.
