Butler track wins 16 events, set four meet records at Hutch Relays

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Butler track and field team dominated the Hutchinson Night Relays on Saturday, winning 16 total events along with eight runner-up and five third-place finishes.

Butler won 12 events on the track as the team swept the 100m, 5,000m, 4x100m and 4x400m relay events in both men's and women's competition.

On the men's side, Butler set four meet records beginning with the 4x100-meter relay as Lamarion Arnold, Xavier Atkins, Quintaveon Poole and Eli Hall-Thompson cruised to a first-place finish with a 40.09 second time.

Atkins (10.20 seconds) and Poole (47.18) also set meet records in the 100-meter and 400-meter dash events, respectively. Arnold, Trevions Rouchon, Antonio Coleman and Poole set a meet record in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:13.64.

Other top finishes for the men included Nolan Hesse (5,000m run, 16:01.96), Mohammed Abubakar (long jump, 7.56m) and Elijah Smith (triple jump, 14.98m).

Butler dominated the men's sprinting events, with eight of the top 13 times in the 200-meter dash and the top four times in the 400-meter event. The Grizzlies also had four of the top seven times in the 100-meter dash.

The Butler women had nine first-place finishes, sweeping all events in the hurdles (100 and 400), relays (4x100, 4x400) and distance (3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m run).

Ona Giles, Jasmine Frazier and Ashley Ehrhart each had two top finishes for the Grizzlies. Giles won the 100m dash (11.85), while Frazier took first in the 100m hurdles (14.47). Giles, Frazier Ehrhart and Alexxis Milner placed first in the 4x100m relay (47.20), while Ehrhart, Kayla Davis, Kalynn Simpson and Ariente' Sims won the 4x400m relay (3:31.14).

In distance events, Sheila Samoei won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:36.58, while Janie Salinas took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:32.06).

Other first-place finishes for the Butler women were Kristina Vujanic (400m hurdles, 1:03.57), Valeriya Kostiuk (high jump, 1.71m) and Rachael Buzanowski (pole vault, 3.53m).

Butler will next host the Grizzly Invitational on Saturday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex, with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events starting at noon.
