Track teams tied for 13th after one day at nationals

LEVELLAND, Texas – The Butler men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first day of the NJCAA national track and field meet at South Plains College.

After four events scored the men have scored four points and are in 13th place. Mohammed Abubakar placed fifth in men's triple jump (15.36 meters). Elijah Smith finished ninth and just out of the points with a jump of 14.75 meters. 

Nolan Hesse finished 13th in the 10,000 meters led the Butler finishers with a time of 33:31.69, Emmanuel Biwott placed 21st (34:24.97) and Jacob Hesse placed 22nd (34:37.66).

On the women's side Butler is tied for 13th with Barton with four events scored.

Alexxis Milner and Kristina Vujanic are competing in the Heptathlon and are currently eighth and ninth respectively. Milner won the 200m in 25.49 and Vujanic placed fifth. Milner also placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles.

Sheila Samoei scored the only points for Butler so far placing sixth in a chilly and windy 10,000 meters (40:44.12), while Alex Fulton placed 27th (45:12.42).

The meet resumes today with multi events and field events starting at 10:00 a.m. and track events starting at 1:00 p.m.
