Butler sophomore sprinter Akeem Sirleaf has been named the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Male Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Communication Staff.
On Saturday at the Cowley Tiger Invitational, Sirleaf posted an NJCAA D-I leading time of 20.90 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Only two runners in the entire nation ran faster times in the 200 this past weekend.
The St. Paul, Minnesota, native also helped the Grizzlies' 4x100-meter relay team to a first-place finish of 40.31 seconds at Saturday's Invite as well. Butler currently ranks second overall in the NJCAA in the 4x100 event, running a 40.13 time in the Butch Reynolds Invitational back on March 9.
