Butler wins three events at Emporia State Spring Invitational

EMPORIA, Kan. – Tavarius Wright tied the meet record for the 100 meter dash, highlighting Butler's performance on Saturday at the La Quinta Inn Spring Invitational at Emporia State's Welch Stadium.

Wright ran a blistering fast time of 10.18 to win the 100 meter dash. It ties the meet record, set by Butler's Travis Collins a year ago. It is also the fastest time of any collegiate runner at any level so far this season. Javaghn Spicer finished fourth in the 100 in a time of 10.48.

Spicer followed up with a win in the 200 meter dash in a time of 21.07. Mark Doyley finished fourth in 21.92 and Denzel Brown was 51st in 24.25.

Wright and Spicer helped Butler finish second in the 4x100 meter relay, with a slow handoff between the second and third legs being the difference between event champion Barton and runner-up Butler.

In the 400 meter dash, Agerian Jackson finished fourth in 49.57.

Luke Jaramillo was 37th in the men's 1500 meter run in 4:35.04.

On the women's side, Shenelle Tomlinson ran 57.86 to win, running the homestretch into a stiff southerly breeze. Xavier Warren finished 14th in 1:02.37.

Octavia Cato was second in the women's 100 meter dash in 11.70, while she placed third in the 200 in 24.82. Keyara Robinson was 36th in 27.58.

Claudia Constantine placed ninth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:26.08. In the 1500 meter run, Tara Mayes was 37th in 6:11.02. Michelle Sanchez placed 11th in the women's 5000 meters in 20:16.12.

In the field events, Derrick Boyce placed 16th in the javelin in his collegiate debut, throwing 166-06. Keyara Robinson was 14th in the women's triple jump in 35-5.25.
