Xavier Atkins picks up KJCCC ‘Athlete of the Week’

It didn't take long for Xavier Atkins to make his impact on the Butler Indoor Track team as he was recognized for his performance last week earning KJCCC Indoor Track & Field 'Athlete of the Week' in the first week of the season.

Atkins won the meet at Wichita State two weeks ago in the men's 60m Dash with a time of 6.74. That time would post as the second fastest time this season when this award was announced. It would also be good enough to qualify him for the NJCAA Indoor national meet.

Atkins backed up his performance at Wichita State this past Friday running a 6.73, bettering his time from the previous week and again, finishing in first place.

"I am very impressed with what Xavier has been able to do this early in the Indoor season," said head coach Dustin Mettler. "He has competed at a high level thus far and we look forward to watching him continue to knock off time."

Atkins becomes the first Grizzly track & field athlete to earn this award this season.
