Butler Track and Field Competes at Region VI Championships

Several Grizzly competitors place in the Region VI Indoor Championships held at Pittsburg State University.

Women's 

Star Mpama finished in first place in the 600 meter run at the Region VI Championships. Mpama also finished sixth in the 400 meter dash, and was part of the second place finishing 4x400 meter relay. Other members of this relay included Vionce Olivares, Trishanie Warner, and Tashira Edwards. The Grizzly runners Mallory Boden, Star Mpama, Gabrielle Gordon, and Khloi Bird finished third place in the Distance Medley Relay. Khloi Bird also took fourth in the 3000 meter run. Another fourth place finish came from Trishanie Warner in the 400 meter dash. Butler women's hurdlers crossed the finish-line back-to-back as Joda Campbell took fifth in the 60 meter hurdles followed by Vionce Olivares in sixth place.

In the field events, Kayla Ortman finished fourth in pole vault.

These awards totaled a seventh-place finish for the Butler Women at the Region VI Championship meet.

Men's

There were four first place finishes for the Grizzly men at the Region VI Championships this weekend. The team of Andrew Leck, Bennet Feldenkirchen, Zach Trotter, and Wail Bourahli placed first in the Distance Medley Relay. The 4x800 meter relay team of Andrew Leck, Wail Bourahli, Abdelhakim Boukhiar, and Zach Trotter also placed first. Shawn Brown won the gold in both the 60 meter dash as well as the 200 meter dash.

A long with forementioned accolades, Wail Bourahli also came away from the meet with a second place finish in the 800 meter run, and  third place finishes in both the 600 meter run and 1000 meter run. There was a Grizzly third place finish in the 4x400 meter relay by the team of Bennet Feldenkirchen, Shawn Brown, Micheal Thomas, and Ryan Chacon. Zach Trotter gave the Grizzlies another third place finish in the 800 meter run along with a fifth place finish in the 600 meter run. La'Dainian Hendrix finished fourth in the 60 meter dash as well as sixth in the 200 meter dash. Andrew Leck added to his awards with a sixth place finish in the 800 meter run, as did Bennet Feldenkirchen with a fourth place finish in the 600 meter run.

In the field events, Braylon Buchanan finished sixth in long jump.

As a team the Butler men took fourth place in Region VI at the Championship meet.

Grizzlies that qualified will now prepare to compete at the NJCAA Indoor Championship on March 3rd and 4thin Topeka, Kansas.
