Nazzio John Named Central Region Track Athlete of the Year; 21 Grizzlies Receive All-American Honors, Men's Team Ranked Fifth in Final Rankings

Nazzio John Named Central Region Track Athlete of the Year; 21 Grizzlies Receive All-American Honors, Men's Team Ranked Fifth in Final Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – The Butler Track and Field team saw many familiar names on the USTFCCCA awards list when the full final list of awards was announced yesterday. 21 Grizzly track and field athletes received all-American honors after their efforts at the NJCAA Outdoor Nationals Meet in Hobbs, New Mexico. 


In addition to these honors, Nazzio John of the men's team was crowned as the USTFCCCA Central Region Athlete of the Year. He won two individual titles at the Region VI Championships: one in the 100-meter dash with a time of 9.96 and another in the 200-meter race with a time of 20.10. John was also a member of both the champion men's 4x100 relay team and a member of the 4x400 third place men's team. He was named Athlete of the Meet at the Region VI Championships for his efforts.


15 male Grizzly athletes were named all-Americans along with six female Grizzlies. 

Both the 4x100 and 4x800 men's team members were named as all-Americans, and the Grizzlies had seven individual award winners. In total awards, Nazzio John and Shawn Brown garnered three all-American awards each. Wail Bourahli, Javari Thomas, and Zach Trotter all received two all-American awards, and Abdelhakim Boukhiar, Andrew Leck, and Andre Morrison all received one all-American award.

On the women's side, the women's 4x800 team received all-American honors. Joda Campbell was named an all-American in women's 100-meter hurdles event and Kadine Brown was an all-American in the women's discus event. 


In terms of final overall rankings which encompasses all of cross country, the indoor track season, and the outdoor track season, the Grizzly men were ranked 5th overall. The men finished ranked 10th overall in cross country, 9th overall in indoor track, and 6th overall in outdoor track.

The women finished ranked 16th in the final rankings. They were ranked 14th in cross country, 23rd in indoor track, and 17th in outdoor track.
