Bird, Morrison Named KJCCC Track Athletes of the Week

A pair of Butler track and field athletes were named KJCCC Track Athletes of the Week on Tuesday, the conference announced.

Khloi Bird, a women's distance runner, and Andre Morrison, a men's sprinter, earned track athletes of the week from the Jayhawk Conference after strong performances at the Pittsburg State Invitational.

Bird, a Topeka native, now holds the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA in the women's 5k as she ran it in 17:45.23. She placed fifth at the meet behind three runners from Pittsburg State and one runner from St. Mary. The time is a 40-plus second personal record and qualifies Bird for NJCAA Indoor Nationals along with being the top NJCAA time. Bird was previously named the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after her stellar performance at the Graduate Classic in Nebraska on Jan. 13th.

Morrison, a Spanish Town, Jamaica, native, posted the fastest time in the NJCAA this indoor season in the 60-meter dash while winning the race at the Pittsburg State Invitational. He posted a time of 6.67 in the prelims and then won with a time of 6.60 in the finals. The time is a personal record and NJCAA qualifying time. The time also ranks 11th out of all collegiate runners this season.

Butler track and field returns to action on Friday Feb. 2nd and Saturday, Feb. 3rd, competing at the Washburn Open in Topeka.
