Men finish third in conference, fourth in Region VI meet

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Butler Community College Cross Country team competed well at the Region VI/Jayhawk West Championships on Monday.

For the 12th straight year the ladies team came out on top in the Jayhawk West scoring. In the Region VI scoring the ladies finished a strong third only two points out of second.

Individually the women were led by Fiona Masai. Masai was the Jayhawk West Champion, third in the Region VI and set a season best time on a very tough course. Also earning All-Region and All-Conference honors were Juliette Gourdet and Sylvia Tomno. Adrian McCollum also had a great day running a season best by right around a minute.

The men's team finished third in the Jayhawk West and fourth in the Region VI.

Individually the men were led by a strong 1, 2, 3 punch from Benson Langat (3rd Place), Kelvin Busienei (5th Place) and Joseph Metcalf (7th Place). All three earned All-Region and All-Conference honors.

With their third place region finish the ladies meet the schools qualifying standard for the NJCAA Championships. The men just missed and will now have to wait for the NJCAA Rankings to come out to see if they will make it as a team to the meet. The NJCAA Championships will take place Nov. 12 in Hobbs, NM.
