Butler cross country kicks off season at Allen County

The Butler cross country team kicked its season off on Aug. 24 at the Allen County Duals in Iola.  Butler Cross Country Coach Jeff Becker took only half of the men's squad to the meet, while none of the women competed.

Among the men who competed at the meet was sophomore Cesar Sanabria, who paced the Grizzlies with his sixth place effort by crossing the line in a time of 16 minutes and 11 seconds over the 5,000 meter course.

"Cesar is running really well right now, and has a chance to be one of the top in the nation by the end of the year," Becker said.

Becker was also pleased with the way Sanabria laid back in the first two miles of the race to help pace his teammates.

Also competing for Butler was Taylor Parker, who finished 17th in 17:00, Fidel Munoz finished 22nd in 17:24, Dale Nuckolls had a 24th place finish in a time of 17:30, Drake Brown finished with a time of 17:31 and in 25th, Eric Minjarez ran a time of 18:09 for 34th and Carlos Galindo brought home a 37th place finish in 18:34.

Next action for the teams will be Sept. 1 in Augusta at the J.K. Gold Classic hosted by Wichita State University.
