Serem again leads Butler men at Wichita State meet

AUGUSTA, Kan. – The fifth-ranked Butler women's cross country team finished fifth among all teams and first among junior-college squads at the JK Gold Classic hosted by Wichita State University at RAFT Recreational Ranch.

Kansas State's women won the meet, followed by Wichita State, Emporia State and Tabor College. The Grizzlies were next, finishing ahead of Bethel College and Cowley.

Abiane Collymore was 26th individually among all women's runners, second against women in the small college/junior college division in a time of 15:52.97. Hayley Ribordy was ninth in that division in 16:42, while Hayley Flanigan was 17th, Kendall Notah was 19th, Terra Flores was 20th and Tricia Trupe was 21st.

On the men's side, Edwin Serem was the top small college/junior college male and was fourth among all runners in a time of 19:24.52 on the 6K course. Israel Mendoza was eighth in the division in 20:34.90.

Other Butler men to count toward the team standings were Max Surmeier (24thin 22:46), Dustin Helms (39th in 25:03) and Cody Frye (44th in 26:50).

As a team, Butler finished sixth overall with 95 points. Among junior college teams, Butler was second behind Cowley County (82 points) and just ahead of Cloud County (97 points).

Butler's teams will be in action again next Saturday at the Romp on the Ridge at Prairie Ridge in Hutchinson. The women will compete at 10 a.m. and the men will run at 10:30.
