Serem again pace Butler men, finishing fifth at Hutchinson meet

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Butler cross country teams competed at the Prairie Ridge Romp on Saturday, with the women finishing fourth as a team.

The Grizzlies finished behind Fort Hays State, Hutchinson and Dodge City in the team standings. It is the first time this season that Butler has not been the top NJCAA squad in a meet.

Abiane Collymore led the way for the Butler women, finishing eighth individually in the 5k race in a time of 20:47.2. She was the second-fastest NJCAA runner in the field. Hayley Ribordy was next for Butler, finishing 18th in 21:54. Kendell Notah was 26th in 23:03 followed by Hayley Flanigan (28th in 23:09), Terra Flores (44th in 24:12) and Tricia Trupe (46th in 24:15).

The Butler men were unable to field a full team due to injuries but Edwin Serem was once again among the front runners as he finished fifth in the 8k in a time of 27:02.6.

Israel Mendoza finished 26th in 29:03 and Max Surmeier was 62nd in 31:37.

Butler's distance runners will not have a meet this coming weekend. The next action for the Grizzlies will be on Sept. 27 at Emporia State.
